Autumn 2011
Primary school applications reminder
If your child was born between 1 September 2007 and 31 August 2008 you should apply for a primary school place for your child. There are ‘Starting School’ booklets available to look through in our office and all primary schools or from the Local Authority Admission team. You can apply for a school place on-line via the Oxfordshire County Council website or by using the form in the booklet which you can get a copy of from our office. School applications must be received by 16th January 2012 so now is the time to visit primary schools and decide which three schools to list as your preferred schools. We recommend that you use all three preferences and include your catchment school as one. Please ask us for any advice or support with form filling.
Toddler Group
Every Thursday morning in the Community Room during Term Time there is a toddler group run independently of the school by parents of younger children so that they all have a chance to socialise. This is a drop-in, with a small weekly fee to cover resources etc. Please come and support this group as it is a good introduction for younger children into the school building.
How to get to school
We are committed to helping you all minimise your car use as much as possible for the sake of our children’s safety, health and to ease the congestion on the roads around our school. We have now got shelters to park bicycles, scooters and pushchairs in our car park area. Please use these as they have been a big investment! You will just need a small padlock for the scooters – (attach a cable tie and padlock to the scooter permanently then you can just put the key for the padlock on a key ring!) The scooter park is just behind the bike park next to the canteen. The bike parking area has rails for you to padlock bikes to. The buggy shelter reduces the congestion in the entrances so please use if you are dropping children off or attending any groups /classes here. If you do need to drive there is car-parking in Quarry Road and then you can either walk through the churchyard or down the hill of Quarry Hollow. There are many alley-ways all around this part of the Quarry so please ask staff if there are other routes you could take from your house. Please do not park directly outside of the school on the yellow lines as this part of the road is very narrow and as such presents potential danger to the children walking on the pavements. Thank you for your support in this.
School funding
As from 1st April 2011 Nursery Schools will be funded differently to the current system of funding as an 80 place school, to funding being assessed termly on each child’s up-take of 15 hours. The final figures have still to be determined by OCC but the draft figures look significantly lower than we currently receive.
We encourage parents to bring their child for the full 15 hours because we now have to report attendance in order to receive the funding. If we want to continue with levels of staffing and wider opportunities offered here this becomes increasingly important. Whilst we can understand that some parents may prefer not to use the full entitlement for a range of reasons I hope you can see the financial situation this creates for us. |
